Walks around Brassington

Brassington is blessed with a wide range of short or slightly longer walks. Footpaths can be seen on Ordinance Survey Map Sheet SK 25/35 (Matlock South) 1:25,000. These are generally in good order and well signposted. Access is either by gate or `Squeeze Stones`. Because there are many sheep and cattle in the area, please help farmers by closing gates correctly and keeping dogs on a lead.

The views from the hill above the village (and from the old Observer Corps post) are particularly spectacular on a fine day.

  • To the south-east one can see the Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire (beyond the cooling towers of Willington Power Station)
  • To the south one looks beyond the Needwood Forest and the cooling towers of Rugely Power Station to Cannock Chase. On a fine day it is possible to see the Malvern Hills.
  • To the south-west are the Weaver Hills.
  • To the west one looks towards Dovedale.
